As families of children with disabilities continue to advocate for their children’s safety, dignity, and education, I would like to know which candidates and elected representatives are willing to stand with us on an important issue: cameras in special education classrooms.
Families of students in sub-separate and special education programs often have to trust that their children are being treated appropriately when they cannot always communicate what happens during the school day. Many of these children are nonverbal or have communication challenges, making transparency and accountability especially important.
Cameras in special education classrooms are not about monitoring or punishing teachers. They are about protecting students, supporting educators, and providing an objective record when concerns arise. Many families believe that having cameras, with appropriate privacy protections in place, would help build trust between schools and families.
I am asking: Are there any candidates or current representatives running for office who are willing to listen to families of children with disabilities and advocate for policies that improve safety and accountability in our schools?
Families raising children with special needs need leaders who will not only hear our concerns but will work with us toward meaningful solutions.
I hope candidates will share their positions and let families know who is willing to be a voice for our children.
