ORANGE, MA – Janet I Boren was born in Barre, Vermont on October 28 1940.
She graduated from high school the first in her class. She never competed with others but whatever she did, she did so to the glory of God. Janet graduated from college as valedictorian with a Bachelor of Music Degree. Music was a huge part of her life. She started piano lessons when she was 5 years old. Janet was a highly gifted trumpet player. She was trumpet soloist in the Vermont state orchestra and received an ward as the outstanding musician in the state. In college she specialized in pipe organ and was organist in many different churches.
In 1962 she married the Rev. Edward “Ted” Boren and together they ministered as a team. Teaching was her passion, having taught in Arlington Jr. High and elementary school in Dallas, Texas. After 4 years in Dallas they were called by God to the North Congregational Church in New Salem, where they served for 53 years. The Boren’s have one child, Carole who is given lots of love where she is. Together with her husband Janet founded The North New Salem Christian School in 1974, where she directed and taught for many years.
Janet went to her heavenly home on Sunday January 25, 2026 where there is peace and joy forever.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 30, 2026 from 5:30- 7 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the North Congregational Church, 60 Elm Street, New Salem.
Interment will be in the spring at the North New Salem Cemetery.
