ATHOL – As the holiday season comes to a close the Athol Woman’s Club would like to extend its thanks and gratitude for the donations to the Memory Tree. Our loved ones may not be with us to celebrate the season, but this tradition helps to keep their memory alive.

The Memory Tree fundraiser was started by Athol Woman’s Club member Betty Jean Sweet 39 years ago, the purpose being to do more good things in the community. Small gifts from many people make a big difference. Today, the funds raised through these donations go back into the community through the club’s donations to area organizations such as the YMCA, The United Way, Camp Wiyaka, Athol Community Food Pantry, and annual scholarships for local students who join as junior members.

The Memory Tree on the bandstand of the Uptown Common is shining brightly with lights in memory of many loved ones. This year’s tree, donated by Ethan Stone of West Brook Tree Farm, was set up by volunteers and decorated by members of the Woman’s Club. Donations of $1 are still being accepted to add a light in memory of a loved one, and the names will be listed in the Athol Daily News. Donation forms are available at Else Where and MacMannis Florist.

The Athol Daily News will continue to publish the names submitted.
