The shifting seas of the UMass men’s basketball roster may finally be calm.

After big man Wildens Leveque entered the transfer portal late in the process in mid June, the Minutemen filled the roster spot by adding freshman Tarique Foster on Monday.

Foster, a 6-foot-8 Bronx, N.Y. native, spent last season at the Putnam Science Academy and won a National Prep Championship. He played four years at Cardinal Hayes High School before that and led the team to a state title and the No. 7 national ranking at MaxPreps.

“Once again our staff did an unbelievable job in maintaining a relationship with Tarique Foster, someone we've been watching since our days at South Carolina and his time at Cardinal Hayes,” UMass coach Frank Martin said in a release. “A former VCU signee that brings skill, length, a great work ethic, and fits in perfectly with how we like to play – fast and with size on the perimeter for defensive purposes.”

Foster also had offers from Bryant and St. Bonaventure, according to 247sports.com. He becomes the eighth member of UMass’ incoming freshman class, joining Robert Davis Jr., Marqui Worthy, Jayden Ndjigue, Sawyer Mayhugh, Mathok Majok  and Rollie Castineyra.
