Bulletin Board: Scoville, Conte help Westfield State softball capture MASCAC regular season title

Stephanie Scoville helped pitch the Westfield State softball team to a MASCAC regular season title on Saturday, throwing a complete game, striking out nine and scattering six hits as the Owls beat Bridgewater State, 4-2. The win sealed Westfield’s MASCAC regular season title, its first since 2011. 

Scoville, a Pioneer alum, closed out the regular season with an 11-3 record. She also picked up seven saves while striking out 31. 

Greenfield graduate Gianna Conte also pitched for the Owls this season, going 5-4 with 23 strikeouts. Westfield kicks off the MASCAC tournament on Friday. 

High schools

The Frontier Baseball Booster Club is holding its fourth annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale on Saturday.  

The sale is sponsored by Fairview Farms in Whately, with hanging baskets, patio pots and annuals available for sale. The sale will run from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the South County Senior Center in South Deerfield. 

Tennis

The Greenfield Adult Rec Tennis League is still looking for players, with the season beginning on May 20. 

The league works by getting a list of opponents with contact information. Members play one match a week, contacting your opponent and setting up a mutually agreeable time to play. Matches are best of three sets. 

The rec tennis league is a singles league. The cost is $30 for Greenfield residents and $40 for non-residents. Pipione’s Sport Shop 26, Montague Elks 7 — Patrick Marble and Connor Bartlett pitched while Ava Barber and Gabe Barber each had a pair of hits in Pipione’s win on Monday. 

Liam Fox struck out three while Tyler Varilly hit safely for the Elks. 

GMLB

Gilmore and Farrell 16, Maniatty’s Real Estate 1 — Michael Dixon hit two doubles and a triple, Bryce Zraunig and Casey Burke each had three hits while Teddy McCarthy doubled in Gilmore and Farrell’s Majors win Saturday. 

Carter Gunnison had two hits while Luciano Stoffolano doubled for Maniatty’s. 

New Fortune 12, Lundgren Honda 3 — Sean Winslow singled and tripled, Collin Winslow singled and doubled, Mason Facey tallied two hits while Sam Edson hit safely in New Fortune’s AAA win Saturday. 

Damien Shields, Ben Trombley and Reed Kelley hit safely for Lundgren. 

Pioneer Valley Tire 11, Ruggeri’s Real Estate 10 — Brantley Godfrey singled and doubled, Brayden Parody and Gabe Tidlund tripled while Kayden Snow Rose struck out nine in Pioneer Valley Tire’s win Friday. 

Anthony Ruggeri knocked two hits while Toby Campbell hit safely for Ruggeri’s. 

■ Blake Miner hit a walkoff single in Rotary’s win over Liberty Tax on Friday. Puchalski had three hits while Carson White scored twice in the win while Adrian Lopez struck out 10 and Yusuf Bensen hit safely in the loss. 

Softball

GGSL

Pristine Oriental 3, Pipione’s Sport Shop 1 — Carly Chadwick knocked two hits while Morgan Beckwith and McKenna Ward hit safely in Pristine’s victory on Monday. 

Rebekka Grant, Ellie McIntyre and Ava Martin hit safely for Pipione’s. 

Triton Automotive 18, Greenfield Garden Cinemas 4 — Lexi Hawkins pitched while Tiana Moise-Valdez, Clara Behan and Anabelle Marciano each had a hit in Triton’s win on Monday.

Riley Tine and Savannah Brown each had a hit for Greenfield Garden. 

Franklin County Crush

The Franklin County Crush 10U softball team played in the Just Play It Tournament in Hudson, N.H., on Saturday, going 2-1 on the weekend. 

The Crush beat the Hudson heat (12-7), fell to South Shore Chaos Ernst (19-2) and finished the day with an 8-6 triumph over the SNH Strikers. 

Leah Batiste had a trio of hits, one a double, Tianna Moise-Valdez cracked a double, Kalina Pease struck out three, Danielle Zraunig and Charley Deane each had RBIs and Alexis Berry struck out two on the day for the Crush. 

Middle School

 Greenfield 12, Frontier 8 — Sophia Ruggeri had four hits, Haddie Connelly had three hits while Samantha Suhl had two hits and 11 strikeouts in Greenfield’s win Friday. 

Charlie Bishop had a hit and struck out seven while Holly Novak and Kaelyn Johnston had two hits for Frontier.
