Water valve replaced

  • All in a day’s work. Athol Department of Public Works employees, David Carr (operating backhoe) and David Craven were seen on Exchange Street in Athol early Tuesday morning completing a valve replacement. Athol Department of Public Works Superintendent Doug Walsh said the department is extremely busy, with jobs under way all around town. The paving of Pleasant Street will continue throughout the day on Wednesday (weather permitting), and present work on Doe Valley Road involves reclaiming and grading work to prepare the road for paving, which is another two day process. Work on the Exchange Street bridge continues with recent operations involving sandblasting the structure. The work was done under cover to preserve the air quality, according to Walsh, who also noted temperatures inside the tented area reached upward of 120 degrees. Athol Daily News/Deborrah Porter
