Jeremy Williams: Making comparisons — The cost of student loans vs. military

If you’re the type of person who has a little jealousy towards student loan forgiveness, here’s a better way to look at it. Since this country is in a really bad way right now, wouldn’t you think if you took some stress off of some of people it would be a good thing? It’s not a bad thing to actually help people sometimes. It seems empathy is hard to come by these days.
Just for the record, I do not have any student loans. However, I do think that student loan forgiveness should happen. In an ideal world, education would be free anyway. But we live in a world that’s all based on super profits and greed. So I just want to show you a comparison so you have an idea of the hypocrisy on this country: student loan forgiveness vs. our super over-bloated military budget.
Let’s see, student loan forgiveness over the next 10 years would be $400 billion. Our defense budget over the next 10 years will be $9 trillion-plus. So $40 billion a year for student loan forgiveness is asking too much, yet $900 billion for defense is totally OK. And with all that, at least you know where the student loan forgiveness is going. Yet we have no idea what our $900 billion for military is actually being spent on.
Maybe it’s time to start cutting our military budget and start actually helping out the people, the schools, health care, and our roads (which are ridiculous). All the systems that have been dismantled to help the people. I think there is soon to be a great awakening, and with this the people will rise up and fix our broken system, because it’s a disaster!
