Patricia Sanville: Excitement growing for fair parade

Folks! It’s that time of the year again. I’m writing about the Franklin County Fair Parade. In the early part of July a theme goes out to everyone to interpret. The theme this year is “Larger than Life.” Everyone has their own interpretation of what that means and after that, plans for floats are arrived at.

Then the construction begins. There is excitement in the air. Everyone has a part to play: weather, marching, painting, building or planning. The anticipation is thick in the air and can be felt.

Some participate by aiding in the truck pulling the float and are witness to the joy on the children’s faces as they near the music and see the candy thrown in their direction. The fair is a lot of fun.

They come from all over to view the parade, which also has firetrucks, police cars, high school bands and lots of floats. They come from the valleys, hilltowns, Vermont and New Hampshire. See you there in September!
