Area Catholic Churches reopen

Due to the time involved in preparing our churches for services per state/diocesan guidelines, Masses at Our Lady Immaculate and St. Francis in Athol and St. Peter’s in Petersham will resume the weekend of May 30.

All three locations will follow the normal Mass schedule: Saturday, 4 p.m. at Our Lady Immaculate; Sunday, 8 a.m. at St. Francis, 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s and 11 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate. Weekday Masses, Monday through Wednesday at 8 a.m. will start on Monday, June 1 at Our Lady Immaculate in the main church.

All those attending Masses should wear a mask. It is important to note, that in order to control the limited number of parishioners allowed, seating, and proper social distancing, the church doors will be locked right before Mass begins. Admittance into the church will be done on a first-come first-serve basis. Additional information concerning the order of the Mass will be provided when you come to church.

Because older adults and those with underlying health conditions continue to be advised to avoid public assemblies, the suspension of the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays will remain in force until Dec. 31.

The food pantry at Our Lady Immaculate rectory is open with limited hours on Tuesdays from 10 am-1:30 pm.
