ATHOL — For many years, the Knights of Columbus, Council 1182, of Our Lady Immaculate Roman Catholic Church has donated coats to the elementary schools in the Athol-Royalston Regional School District.

The annual coat donation is named in grateful memory of Tom Darcy, who gave many years of service to the Athol-Royalston Regional School District as the school community resource staff person (school social worker), who purchased hundreds of children’s coats, snow pants, snow boots, and other children’s clothing annually, and donated them to the district’s elementary school students for many years.

Darcy passed away Jan. 16, 2016, and he is still deeply missed by children, families, teachers and staff in the Athol-Royalston Regional School District.

This year, the Knights of Columbus, Council 1182, donated many children’s coats, in all sizes, to the Athol Community Elementary School, and the children were very grateful when they received their new coat.

Rachel Schwab, elementary school guidance counselor, coordinates these coat donations each year. She contacts parents/guardians of children in the school who might need a new coat and gets permission from parents/guardians to give a new coat to their child.

Children’s coats in some sizes available. If your child attends Athol Community Elementary School and needs a new coat, call Rachel Schwab at (978) 249-2406 Ext. 2311, and talk with her about your child.
