MSO Patriotic concert and fireworks at Worcester's East Park, July 2

WORCESTER — The first of three admission-free summer concerts presented by the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra will take place on Tuesday, July 2 at Worcester's East Park (also known as Cristoforo Colombo Park) at 8 p.m. Part of the 2019 Bank of America Summer Concert Series, the performance will feature patriotic and popular music and will conclude with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture along with Sousa marches played during the course of a spectacular fireworks display.

Marking the 25th consecutive year of Worcester’s annual Independence Holiday Concert and Fireworks at the city's public park on Shrewsbury Street, Maestro Myron Romanul will conduct, and vocal soloists will be Jane Shivick, Todd Yard, and the choral group Vox Omnis along with  

area high school students, all under the direction of MSO Chorus Master John Delorey. The concert will feature works primarily by American composers such as Berlin, Copland, and Williams and will include music from the Broadway blockbuster "Hamilton" to celebrate  

the nation's birthday. The rain date for the concert is Wednesday, July 3.

Conductor Myron Romanul is the First Kapellmeister of the State Theatre in Munich, Germany, in addition to leading orchestras In Australia and Turkey. He was formerly Arthur Fiedler's touring pianist with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Jane Shivick is one of Worcester's leading sopranos and has performed frequently with both the Massachusetts Symphony and the Boston Pops Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Keith Lockhart. Todd Yard is a graduate of  Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London and has extensive experience in Broadway theatre productions. The vocal ensemble Vox Omnis, under the direction of John Delorey, is based at Worcester's All Saints Church.
