WINCHENDON — If you’re in search of good, locally made food and crafts, be sure to head to Winchendon this Saturday.

The town’s farmers market will celebrate its opening day on May 20, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sherry Haley, co-market manager, said the vendors were also around last weekend for the Taste of Winchendon, The market will be open every Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Thursday, 4-7 p.m. Haley said this helps those who want to go to the market but can’t make it on one day or another.

“We run all the way to the end of October,” Haley said.

This year’s market will feature nine vendors, including 7 Acre Farm, Haley Farm, High Springs Farm and Rosehawk Farm. Shelly’s She Shed, which does jams, canning and baking, and Spinning Ginny, where people can buy hand-knit wool hats and other items, will also be there. In addition, there is Olde Soul Jewelry, which incorporates sea glass, natural stones and crystals, a maker of children’s clothing and a wildlife photographer.

Haley, who manages the market with Janet Lee, said one of the best parts is seeing the variety of people who stop by. There are regulars who come on foot and tourists on the way to Vermont who stop by when they see the signs or baked goods.

“We like to say we supply a lot of their fresh goods,” said Haley.

The Winchendon Farmers Market has been around for 14 years, starting off on Pleasant Street near Town Hall and then moving to Central Street. Haley said the market moved back to Town Hall, where the parking is better. Popularity has gone up and down over the years, but Haley said over the last few, the interest has been high.

“It’s a great place to come,” said Haley. “Even if you’re not buying, say ‘Hi’ and stop by and look at what everyone has to offer and it might change your mind.”
