ATHOL — Wayne Allan Carter, 65, Beloved Father, Grandfather and Brother, died peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Leominster Hospital with his beloved family at his side.

Wayne will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Sarah Meeker and her husband Chris of Athol and Cassie Carter of Orange; his three grandchildren, Cameron, Hailie, and Chase all of Athol; three half sisters, Carol Lindberg of Lunenburg, Ruth Wierenga of Lynn and Gail Syrjala of Boynton Beach, FL. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by his sisters Lorraine Carter-long and Valerie Carter as well as a half brother, Lorene Carter.

Wayne was born on October 29, 1952 in Flushing, NY, a son of the late Harry and Ethel (Crane) Carter. After the passing of his father, his family moved to Fitchburg, where he resided for a large portion of his life. He graduated from Fitchburg High School and attended Monty Tech for graphic arts after high school. He worked as a printer for many years and retired in 2008 from Simplex in Westminster.

Wayne had a true passion for hockey. He made many treasured memories at the Wallace Civic Center and Landry rinks over the years, as a player and spectator. He also spent many years contributing to the areas youth hockey programs and loved his time as a coach.

Wayne was a diehard New England sports fan, most importantly of the Boston Bruins. In the last hours of his life, he was able to enjoy watching his final Bruins game with his family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420

Burial will be in the spring at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA

Calling hours will be held in the funeral home prior to the funeral from 11:30 to 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Fitchburg Youth Hockey or the Athletic Department at Monty Tech High School.
