Three periods was not enough to decide a winner at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Friday between the UMass and Omaha hockey teams.

The Minutemen scored with 1:26 to play in regulation to knot the game at 2-2 and send the opening game of the Ice Breaker Tournament to overtime.

Late in the 3-on-3 overtime period, Maverick Zach Urdahl raced down on a breakaway, where his shot was stopped by UMass goalie Michael Hrabel.

Urdahl stayed with the puck and knocked in the rebound, lifting Omaha to a 3-2 victory with 55 seconds remaining in OT.

The Minutemen will play the loser of Minnesota and Air Force on Saturday to close out the Ice Breaker Tournament.

Lucas Mercuri recorded his first goal of the season with 1:45 to play in the first period, smashing in a rebound in front to give UMass the opening lead of the game. Ryan Lautenbach and Daniel Jencko were credited with the assists.

The Mavericks answered on the power play with 2:16 to go in the second period after Urdahl found the back of the net.

Omaha’s Jacob Slipec lit up the scoreboard with 3:04 to play in regulation off assists from Joe Gramer and Jacob Guevin that gave the Mavericks the late lead.
