TEMPLETON — A spokesman with the office of Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early confirmed Friday that the DA’s office is investigating circumstances surrounding an unattended death at a school in Templeton.

In response to an inquiry from the Athol Daily News, State Police spokesman David Procopio identified the victim as a 62-year-old male from Orange. He was found in a rest room Thursday night at Templeton Elementary School by a member of the school’s janitorial staff, according to Procopio.

“The deceased,” said the statement, “was an independent contractor working for the school in a counseling capacity. There were no signs of foul play, and no signs of drug use. The investigation is ongoing.”

In a letter sent district-wide, Narragansett Regional School District Superintendent Chris Casavant said a member of the psychology team was found dead at the school on Thursday. Casavant said that at no point were students present or involved in the individual’s death.

“Out of respect for the privacy of the family,” Casavant wrote, “I’m not able to share any additional details at this time, including the individual’s name.”

Casavant said the district’s counseling team is available to any students or staff members in need of assistance.

“We are working to identify any specific students or staff members who worked closely with this individual to ensure they are supported as well,” said the letter.
