PHILLIPSTON – The Boston Bruins may have beaten the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Tuesday, but the Black & Gold weren’t the only winners that night.

Phillipston’s Red Apple Farm was awarded this year’s Small Business Takeover at the TD Garden in Boston. In awarding this year’s Takeover, TD Bank turned over all possible advertising “real estate” at the Garden to the local business.

“This includes,” said a release from the bank, “the 360 LED screens, dasher board, video walls, roster card, digitally enhanced dasher boards show during the broadcast, TD Bank corporate suite, in addition to digital support from Bruins social channels.”

Al and Nancy Rose are the co-owners of Red Apple Farm. Al explained that he and Nancy had approached the bank through their business partner to explore sponsorships “for all our festivals. He said he would explore what opportunities are out there for sponsorships. He then came back to us and said, ‘I think you guys would be a perfect fit for the TD Takeover. The next thing you know, we were nominated, became finalists, and ultimately the awardee. It was a year-long process to be accepted.”

Ultimately, said Al Rose, it came down to the close working relationship Red Apple Farm has with the bank.

Red Apple Farm has had a presence in Boston for quite some time. Nancy Rose explained that the multigenerational farm has had a retail stall at the Boston Public Market for 10 years. It also offers products at Wachusett Mountain’s base lodge, as well as the ski area’s slope-side Bullock Lodge.

Red Apple Farm is known around the region for its pick-your-own apple orchard and the wide variety of items and unique food offerings at its gift shop. Other attractions at the farm include the Brew Barn Taproom & Restaurant and The Cidery. It recently hosted the Northfolk NightMarket: A Winter Festival, and is well-known for the annual Appleseed Country Fair, which takes place each fall. The Enchanted Orchard Renaissance Fair is coming up the weekend of May 3 and 4.

“Small businesses like Red Apple Farm are the foundation of New England’s economy, and TD Bank is committed to doing all we can to help our business customers grow and achieve their goals,” said Sheryl McQuade, regional president of New England Metro, TD Bank, in a release announcing Red Apple Farm’s Small Business Takeover. “For generations, the Rose family has welcomed visitors to Red Apple Farm, providing an authentic New England farm experience that creates lasting memories. They were also able to build on their success as a seasonal business to one with a year-round operation with three locations across Massachusetts.”

TD Bank’s Small Business Takeover initiative began in 2017 to promote New England small businesses on a larger scale at TD Garden during a Bruins home game. Previous participants of the initiative have included Alternative Transportation Systems, Pain D’Avignon, Energy Shield of New Hampshire, Black Earth Composting, Day’s Jewelers, The Barkery, Bay State Cruise Company and Sunbug Solar.

When asked who would accompany the couple to Tuesday’s game, Nancy Rose said, “We have a bunch of employees and family members going. There have to be around 35 or 40 of us. TD Bank is sharing their suite with us, along with some of our family and employees. They also shared a block of pretty nice tickets with us for folks to watch the game from behind one of the nets.”

An email Wednesday morning from Loryn Killay, a Red Apple Farm employee who handles promotions, exclaimed, “We had an incredible time last night.”
