ATHOL — Throughout the past three months, jigsaw puzzles have been in demand to fill in some of those “at home” quarantine hours. Jan Doody of the Athol Congregational Church saw how well the drive-through community meals were doing, and began the idea for the Puzzle Swap, reports Bonnie Benjamin. “We have been waiting for this phase of safety guidelines. The Church has been given permission to begin, within the limits of safety procedures according to the Athol Board of Health Agent Deborah Vondal. It is just like curbside pick-up of food — just don’t eat the puzzles!”

“Bring your used, complete puzzle to the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut St., on Friday, June 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. Don’t get out of your car,” Benjamin said. “The line will begin through the parking lot where you will donate your puzzle. A masked greeter will take the puzzle for disinfecting. You will drive forward to view the puzzles at the next available table. A masked helper will help you make your selection. You are selecting one free puzzle!

“Then you will drive out in front of the church toward Main Street. The Board of Health suggests that the puzzles are to be left unused for two days after the cleaning process. The date on the puzzle indicates when the puzzle was disinfected and air-dried. We hope that the process moves right along and everyone has a new puzzle to work on.

“If your last name begins with I – Z, come if you can between 4 and 5 p.m. If your last name begins with A-H, come between 5 and 6 p.m. Just spreading out the puzzle people!”

Benjamin said the church will make procedural and safety alterations and have another swap on June 26. Check Facebook- Athol Congregational “Family” group or the Church web site www. atholcongregationalucc.org for additional information. Share your Puzzle success on FB, if you wish.
