ORANGE — The sixth annual Orange Solstice Riverfest is this weekend, featuring music, food vendors, the annual lighted boat parade and — this year — a softball game.

The festival is Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at Butterfield Park off East River Street. The event will kick off with a first-ever softball game between the “Mahar All-Stars” and the “Safety Sluggers.”

The Mahar All-Stars are a co-ed team from Ralph C. Mahar Regional School taking on the Safety Sluggers, made up of members of the town’s police and fire departments. Vendors with hot dogs and beer will be open during the game, which begins at 3 p.m. Admission is free.

“This is setting up to be a great softball game with a trophy and bragging rights at stake,” said organizer Brenda Anderson.

At 4 p.m., a 5K road race will start at Butterfield Park, following a course down Hayden Street to Mahar and then back through the woods to finish at the park. There will be medals for different age groups and best overall time, as well as prizes given to the best solstice costumes for runners.

At 5 p.m., the event moves to Riverfront Park for music, food, games, yoga and more. Discounted boat rentals will be available from Billy Goat Boats, and floating fire pits in the river will be lit at around 7:30 p.m.

The hallmark of the event, the lighted boat parade, begins at 8 p.m.
