Orange Police Log: Aug. 20-22, 2021

Friday, Aug. 20

9:22 a.m. – Requested welfare check at East River Street revealed that subject was fine.

11:12 a.m. – Performed scheduled burglar alarm test at New Athol Road with Valley Communications.

12:04 p.m. – Daniel Shays Highway caller reported their truck had dog poop smeared all over it, and has an idea who might have done it. Advised of security measures that could be taken to assist in proving the culprit if any future incidents. Also advised of Harassment Prevention order options.

3:23 p.m. – Minor two-car motor vehicle accident in a New Athol Road parking lot. No injuries, nor leaking fluids or smoke. Report filed.

5:55 p.m. – West Main Street caller reported a refrigerator was left on the side of the road with the door still on it. Issue addressed with owner.

7:31 p.m. – Caller reported a downed tree limb on a wire at the end of Haskins Road and West Orange Road. Patrol officer checked and limb appeared to be on cable wire. Attempted to contact resident, but no answer at the door.

8:18 p.m. – East Main Street traffic stop for operating a motor vehicle without headlights.

8:38 p.m. – Caller from Tully Road area reported a vehicle going up and down the road shooting fireworks off from the vehicle. Gone on arrival.

11:48 p.m. – Patrol observed vehicle at an East Main Street business with its lights on. Owner contacted and advised police that no one, no vehicles should be there. Vehicle to be towed in the morning.

Saturday, Aug. 21

12:48 a.m. – Daniel Shays Highway traffic stop for defective brake light revealed operator had a suspended license and vehicle was towed by Jim’s.

10:11 a.m. – East Main Street traffic stop for failure to have vehicle inspected.

10:23 a.m. – Memory Lane caller reported their house had been broken into the previous Sunday and multiple items were taken. Report filed.

10:57 a.m. – East Main Street traffic stop for unregistered vehicle. Plates seized and vehicle towed by Jim’s.

11:19 a.m. – Athol PD requested assistance with a suspicious person who may be going through mailboxes, description provided. Located said individual in the Daniel Shays Highway area who denied going through mailboxes. They gave consent to OPD to search their backpack, and no mail found. APD arrived and spoke with subject.

7:12 p.m. – New Athol Road traffic stop resulted in vehicle being towed by Dale’s for expired registration.

8:15 p.m. – Citation issued to vehicle in Daniel Shays Highway area for passing in a no passing zone.

9:54 p.m. – Officer assisted Whitney Street resident who believed that a fridge they had moved into the hallway temporarily (a few days) was stolen, possibly by another tenant. Reporting party stated they had not heard anything unusual during the time they believed it was stolen. Officers searched inside the house and nothing was found.

11:55 p.m. – East River Street caller reported daughter (description provided) had left the residence and may be headed to her boyfriend’s. Juvenile returned home just prior to officers arrival. Situation between mother and daughter was mediated for the night by the officers.

Sunday, Aug. 22

12:59 a.m. – Officers asked to return to East River Street for escalating situation of daughter hitting and slamming things over cell phone usage parameters set by mother. Mother allowed daughter to leave for the night with an adult friend.

12:02 p.m. – Traffic stop on West Main Street for expired registration. Plates seized, vehicle towed.

12:38 p.m. – Assisted East Main Street caller with options for harassment by roomate including Harassment Prevention order and trespass options.

12:56 p.m. – 911 call from East Main Street area for fallen tree that downed power lines. National Grid notified and cut power to the effected residence/private property.

3:11 p.m. – Prentiss Street caller reported a tree limb on wires that were sparking. Police controlled the scene until National Grid arrived.

4:54 p.m. – Wheeler Avenue caller reported a car crashed into a small tree and mailbox. The airbags were deployed and the car was steaming. Witnesses stated they saw operator of the vehicle flee the scene to a residence on Wheeler Avenue. Resident at that location denied that anyone had gone inside. Jim’s towed vehicle and report was filed.

10:01 p.m. – Received multiple calls of a motor vehicle that had struck a W Main Street building and driver was attempting to flee. Officers responded and took control of the scene. Report filed and incident is under investigation.
