ATHOL — The Athol Council on Aging will be offering the Senior Farm Share program made possible through CISA, the community involved in sustaining agriculture organization and North Quabbin Harvest. Fresh, local vegetables will be distributed weekly for a period of 10 weeks to eligible senior residents. To qualify for the program, you must be 60 years of age or older and receive SNAP benefits, or fuel assistance. If you receive neither of the benefits, your annual household income must be below $25,760 for a family of one or an annual income below $34,840 for two or more family households. For more information and an application to participate in the program, contact the Council office at 978-249-8986. There are limited amount of shares and the deadline is June 1 to apply.

Athol VFW Post 650 to meet June 1

ATHOL — VFW Post 650 will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 1, at 7 p.m. in the D.A.V. Hall, at 47 Pine St., Athol. Pertinent questions may be directed to Ron Ferguson at 978-798-8035. Masks and social distancing may be required.

MassDOT Rte. 2 East-bound traffic advisory

ATHOL/PHILLIPSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing the daytime closure of Route 2 eastbound near exit 75 (Route 32) in Athol/Phillipston. This closure will occur from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 25. These daytime closures will facilitate paving operations for the Route 2 Resurfacing Project.

During the work, drivers traveling on Route 2 eastbound will be directed to exit Route 2 at exit 75 (Route 32) and get back onto Route 2 at exit 77 (Route 2A).

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers who are traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency.

For more information on traffic conditions, travelers are encouraged to dial 511 and select a route to hear real-time conditions or visit, a website that provides real-time traffic and incident advisory information, and allows users to subscribe to text and email alerts for traffic conditions.
