Assessment increase notice

WENDELL — Real estate assessments have increased significantly for 2023. The amount of Wendell’s total valuation of real estate and personal property has increased 11% based on real estate market sales data from the 2021 calendar year.

The question of whether this will increase tax bills in 2023 varies from property to property. Typically, if there is an increase in assessed value, then the tax rate will drop.

Assessors do not raise or lower taxes. Massachusetts assessors determine property values based on highly regulated guidelines from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. Assessors do not buy, sell, or negotiate selling prices of properties. Willing buyers, sellers, and other agents influence the price of all properties on the open market; they drive the market, not the assessors.

Templeton Parks and Rec Commission established

TEMPLETON — The North Central is seeing some changes and advancements in local governance. Through the efforts of Sen. Anne M. Gobi (D-Spencer), Templeton will now establish a Parks and Recreation Commission. Members shall be appointed for a term of one year, at the discretion of the Select Board. The new commission will oversee the town’s parks, fields, and related facilities. Members will be responsible for crafting policies related to outdoor recreation, including providing services and programs for the public.

In announcing the bill’s passage, Gobi said, “The creation of a Parks and Recreation Commission is an exciting step for Templeton. Gone are the days when parks were simple amenities to beautify a community. Today, parks are necessities. Parks and Recreation Commissions drive engagement, and help to build economic development by creating welcoming environments in our communities.”

Templeton Select Board Vice Chair Timothy Toth said, “This is a sterling example of the level of collaboration, cooperation, and support from our legislation team helping our town. I’m grateful for their actions and for helping us be successful.”
