Mahar 50+ Club raises $7,750 for scholarships

ORANGE — The $7,750 in scholarships raised this year by the Mahar 50+ Club marked the third year of increased donations, despite the lack of a physical meeting.

The club did not hold its annual dinner meeting and fundraiser on the third Saturday of September, but individual members were asked to make donations toward Mahar scholarships. Co-chairs Muriel Holden and Maureen Riendeau presented a check to Jeff Cole, president of the Orange Scholarship Foundation, last week.

The Mahar 50+ Club is an organization for Ralph C. Mahar Regional School alumni who graduated more than 50 years ago. The annual meeting, typically held the third Saturday in September, features raffles and other fundraisers to benefit graduating seniors and post-graduate students. The money is managed by the Orange Scholarship Foundation.

The 2023 meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Athol American Legion at 325 Pequoig Ave.
