NEW SALEM — According to a group of residents, the New Salem Planning Board will hold a special permit public hearing Saturday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m., behind New Salem Town Hall, regarding a proposed disc golf course business on Neilson Road.

The applicant, Leo Lacwasan, proposes to operate the 58-acre, 18-basket disc golf course as an unmonitored, self-service facility, dawn to dusk, 365 days per year. He is also requesting the right to hold tournaments that will bring large numbers of players from out of town into New Salem.

According to the press release, this is the first and only official communitywide opportunity to voice an opinion about this project and whether it is appropriate for this location.

If you are unable to attend Saturday’s public forum, you can submit your written comments in advance to the Planning Board at

Crowd size is limited to 50, as per Governor’s order. Please wear a mask and bring a chair.
