Mahar girls’ rank 18th in Western Mass. for third week in a row

ORANGE — The latest Top 20 rankings for Western Massachusetts girls’ high school basketball stood pat in the latest reveal on Feb. 6, meaning the Mahar girls’ basketball team ranked 18th in the region for the third week in a row.

The Senators are 11-6 on the year and have won four games in a row and eight out of their last nine games. Their most recent victory came against Hopkins Academy on Tuesday night, where the Senators used a 10-0 run to end the game with the 46-40 victory.

Mahar has three games left in the 2017-2018 season. They will take on the rivaled Athol Red Raiders on Monday and then the Greenfield Green Wave on Friday. The Green Wave is ranked sixth in all of Western Mass. and is 14-1 on the year. Their only loss came from No. 3 Hoosac Valley back on Dec. 16, losing 62-44. Greenfield defeated Mahar 60-22 back on Jan. 2.

The Senators round out their season on the road against No. 19 Frontier Regional. The Red Hawks are currently 13-4 on the year and defeated Mahar 36-35 back on Jan. 5. The Red Hawks slipped to No. 19 after being ranked 17th in the previous week’s poll.
