On Wednesday of last week, the teachers and staff of the Mahar Regional School District were awarded a framed certificate recognizing them all as the recipient of January’s Athol Lions Club Community Service Award. Athol Lions President Joshua Grosky, as well as Committee Member Mitchell Grosky (taking the photo) presented the award to Mahar Teachers Association President Ian Bashaw, as well as Middle School Humanities Teacher Melissa Messing and High School History Lauren Cerillo, thanking them as the representatives for all teachers and staff for “all of incredible work that teachers have done for the children and families of our community, going above and beyond in so many ways during this year of the pandemic.”

The award is intended to honor not only teachers, but also the other members of the school staff who are heroes, especially during this extremely challenging year of Covid-19, including paraprofessionals, administrative assistants, cafeteria workers, and custodians, according to a press release. We also want to extend our thanks to administrators throughout the District. “Our educators throughout the district deserve our gratitude for all they have done for our children and all they continue to do,” the press release read.

This year, the Athol Lions are awarding a special Athol Lions Community Service Award of the Month to individuals or groups in our area who have modeled service to others in our community.
