John David Boles: Green River Cleanup a community effort

The 21st Franklin/Green River Cleanup took place on Sept. 27 and 28. Four River Charter School kicked off the cleanup on Friday, covering three sites leading into the Green River. On Saturday, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department continued at 7 a.m., cleaning a large site adjacent to the Green River Swim area.
Nearly 300 volunteers converged at the Green River Swim area on Saturday to branch out and clean 35 sites throughout Franklin County. I am proud of our community for its support for clean water and a clean watershed. Countless volunteers offer their time and resources to work together with the same goals in mind. The level of kindness and cooperation at this event is commendable!
This event has grown due to the support and resources offered by our community. I want to thank the following supporters: DRWA, CRC, Greenfield DPW, PV Squared, Scott Barlow Paving, Fairview Landscaping, Kyle Nartowitz Tree Service, Greenfield Recreation Department, Sheriff’s Department, Coca Cola, Greenfield Saving Bank, Subway-Federal St., Mesa Verde, Brick and Feathers Brewery, Foster’s Market, Clarkedale Fruit Farm, Dunkin Donuts-Mohawk Trail, Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters, Real Pickles, Fogbuster Coffee, WRSI, WHAI, Bear Country, Fuske and O’Neil, Greenfield Recorder, LWV, People’s Pint, DeAngelo“s, New Fortune, Ryan and Casey Liquors, Antonio’s Pizza-Bernardston, NMH, GHS, USA Hauling, Tapestry, Recycle Bag gals, Boys of the Landfill, Supper Sorters, ScoutTroop number 64980, Scout BSA Troop 5, and Cub Scouts pack 3.
Took a dive in the Green River yesterday. What a gift! The Green River is grade A quality in North Greenfield, but exits Greenfield in poor quality. We as a city must continue to address this concern. Lets’ work together to continue to restore this invaluable resource.
