Green River Cemetery Board of Directors: Cleanup of abandoned campsites appreciated

The board of directors of Green River Cemetery would like to express sincere thanks to two groups who helped clean up abandoned campsites deep in the woods around our park-like cemetery.
As reported in the Recorder on Sept. 30 [“Community effort cleans waterways”], Green River Cleanup volunteers led by David Boles removed a large quantity of debris from woods above Water Street and above Mill Street. Also, on some of the hottest days of the summer, Larry Thomas and members of the Wildflower Alliance filled nearly 50 contractor bags from two of the sites, which our members then hauled to the dump.
The woods around the cemetery and above the Green River are once again welcoming for neighborhood walkers and visitors to the cemetery. We are extremely grateful for the work of these two dedicated groups of volunteers!
We sincerely hope that those who left campsites behind have found safer lodging.
