Richie Davis’ remembrance of Randy Kehler (“Randy Kehler — A life devoted to peace,” July 29) reported that Kehler “was injured while defending a roommate who was … harassed for being Jewish, even though he was a Unitarian.” Davis is an experienced and talented writer, and I assume that he chooses his words carefully. Why, then, did he write “even though he was a Unitarian?” I don’t understand why being a Unitarian was relevant in that situation. I don’t want to make assumptions, and I don’t want to make too much of this. The focus was and should be on Randy Kehler, who led a principled and courageous life and inspired many people by his example. All I can say is that the phrase jumped out at me, and it has had me wondering ever since.
