TURNERS FALLS — Not much separated Powertown field hockey rivals on Friday afternoon.
Kenzie Sourdiffe-Phelps netted the game’s only goal in the second half, lifting visiting Franklin Tech to a 1-0 independent victory over Turners Falls High School.
Abi Dobias assisted on the goal for the Eagles, which improved to 1-0-1 on the season. They’ll next travel to Palmer on Tuesday.
Turners Falls, which dropped to 0-2-1, hosts East Longmeadow on Monday.
Frontier 3, Agawam 2 — Ashlie Galenski scored a pair of goals to help the Redhawks knock off the Brownies in a Suburban League contest in Agawam on Friday.
Macy DeMaio tallied a goal and an assist while Ashley Taylor distributed two assists in the win. Kyra Richards stopped three shots for Frontier.
Greenfield 11, Holyoke 1 — Offense was on point for the Green Wave on Friday afternoon, as they hung an 11-spot on the Purple Knights to earn their first win of the season in Holyoke.
Riley Thayer and Henley Gilstrap each recorded hat tricks to pace the Greenfield attack, while Kenzie Boswell and Gloria McDonald added a pair apiece. Grace Laurie also scored for the Green Wave.

Smith Voc 1, Franklin Tech 0 — Caitlin Willard scored the game’s lone goal midway through the first half as the Vikings edged the Eagles on Friday in Northampton.
Shaylee Martin made 13 saves in her first career varsity start in goal for Franklin Tech (0-1-1). Ariel Peters, Samantha Duncan, Sofia Moreno and Mady Lynde played well defensively for the Eagles, and Kaelyn Mclean keyed the midfield for the visitors.
Smith Academy 4, Pioneer 0 – Caitlin Graves scored all four of Smith Academy’s goals, including a hat-trick in the first half. Piper Higuera added in three assists and Anna Scagel dished out a helper as well.
Kyler McClelland made 10 saves in net for the Panthers.
Turners 3, Athol 1 — The Thunder shook off a slow start and picked up a road victory in Athol on Friday night.
Set scores were 10-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-17.
Turners’ Madi Liimatainen put down five kills to go with seven aces and four digs. Tatiana Carr-Williams (three kills, three aces, four digs), Maddie Dietz (10 aces, two digs, seven assists), Shelly Beck (one kill, three aces, one dig) and Janelle Massey (five aces) also powered the Thunder.
Athol’s Olivia Mayer put down three kills, while Giana Vaillancourt notched four digs to go with two kills and two aces. Ella Reed recorded seven assists for the Bears.
Mohawk Trail 3, Franklin Tech 1 — Emmalee Inman and Palmer King each had five kills, and Adrian Grant added four kills to lift the Warriors to a four-set victory on Friday night.
Set scores were 26-28, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.
King dished out 12 assists to go with seven aces and five digs. Jadelyn Wheeler paced the defense with 16 digs, and Emma Canaday went for four kills, four assists and three digs.
Tech’s Taylor Underwood notched six digs, while Emma Petersen put down six kills and an ace and Janiylah Wan added two aces and four digs.
Athol 195, Pathfinder 233 — Ethan Heuer was the match medalist after firing a 40, helping the Bears earn a victory at Ellinwood Country Club on Friday.
Dominik St. Andre (44), Owen Stoddard (52) and Oliver Johnson (59) rounded out the scoring for Athol.
Volleyball
Mohawk 3, Chicopee 1 — Palmer King put down six aces, five kills and dishe d eight assists while Emma Canaday had one ace and six kills in the Warriors’ 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 victory over the Pacers on Thursday.
Jade Wheeler tallied three aces and 10 digs, Zoe Mojallali put down two kills and Adrian Grant tallied two aces and one kill in the win.
