High Schools: Ella Guidaboni's goal lifts Turners Falls past Mohawk Trail for 1st win

Ella Guidaboni buried a penalty stroke in the waning minutes of regulation, and the visiting Turners Falls field hockey team won their first game of the season on Friday.
Guidaboni’s goal broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Thunder to a 1-0 Valley League victory over Mohawk Trail in Buckland.
Turners held a 12-7 edge in penalty corners, improving to 1-4-1 overall with the victory.
Frontier 3, Belchertown 1 — After suffering their first loss of the season earlier in the week, the Redhawks stormed back with a solid win against good competition on Friday.
The host Redhawks turned a one-goal halftime lead into a 3-1 independent victory over Belchertown in South Deerfield.
Macy DeMaio, Amelia Bouchard and Ashley Taylor scored goals for Frontier (3-1), with DeMaio also notching an assist.
Frontier goalie Kyra Richards stopped two shots in net. Next up is a home game against Minnechaug on Wednesday.
Franklin Tech 4, West Springfield 0 — A hat trick from Kenzie Sourdiffe-Phelps kept the Eagles rolling on Friday in Turners Falls.

Abi Dobias also scored for Franklin Tech, which won its fourth game in a row to improve to 4-0-1. Katy Lengieza, Hannah Gilbert and Cammy Jacques notched assists, and goalie Madison Markwell wasn’t called on to make a save in the team’s four consecutive shutout.
Frontier 5, Lenox 0 — Grayden Gifford tallied twice as the Redhawks stayed unbeaten with a victory over the Millionaires on the road on Friday.
Gus Radner, Eric Larsson and TJ Donovan also found the back of the net, with Larsson adding an assist. Jack Cusson made one save in the win.
Pioneer 3, Turners 2 — Judah Glenn finished with a hat trick, scoring all the Panther goals in a victory over the Thunder in Turners on Friday.
Yolvin Ovalle-Mejia and John Ramirez tallied for Turners, with Moises Borrayes providing an assist.
Frontier 3, Ware 0 — Maddie Fagan and Skyler Steele each scored a goal and assisted on another, helping the Redhawks to another early-season victory on Friday.
Maggie Nichols netted the other goal for Frontier, and Jazzy Hayes added an assist. Goalie Aylen Shaw made seven saves in net for the shutout.
Frontier 3, Athol 0 — The Redhawks racked up 25 aces as a team, and handled host Athol in a 3-0 sweep on Friday at Mallet Gymnasium.
Set scores were 25-17, 26-24, 25-7.
Frontier’s Bailey Martin led the offense with seven kills, while Caitlin Maio put down four kills to go with six aces. Parrish Stilla (11 assists) and Cadence Martin (seven assists) guided the offense, and Melanie Ring had a team-high seven digs.
Giana Vaillancourt did a bit of everything for Athol, racking up six digs, five aces, five assists and three kills. Evelyn Robinson and Olivia Mayer had two kills each for the Bears.
Athol 179, Pathfinder 215 — Ethan Heuer turned in a 4-over 39 to secure match medalist honors, helping the Bears to a decisive victory at Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown on Friday.
Dominik St. Andre was next with a 44 for Athol, followed by Brandon Adams (47) and Owen Stoddard (49).
Boys soccer
Mahar 0, Easthampton 0 — The Senator defense did its job on Thursday, keeping the Eagles off the board to finish in a scoreless draw at the Woodward Complex Thursday.
Tristan Gaj made 15 saves for Mahar while Sam Barr stopped four shots for Easthampton.
“I was super excited about the progress this team has made given our previous three losses,” Senator coach Dan Guertin said.
Volleyball
Turners 3, Mahar 2 — Madelyn Burgess (10 aces, four assists), Mckenzie Scribner (six aces, 10 digs) and Hayden Comeau (one ace, two kills, five digs) played well for the Sens in a close loss to the Thunder on Thursday.
