HS Roundup: Franklin Tech volleyball sweeps Pioneer, 3-0

Behind nine aces, five kills, two digs and two blocks from Emma Petersen, the Franklin Tech volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 sweep over Pioneer on Thursday in Northfield. 

The Eagles won the opening set, 25-10, before cruising to set wins of 26-6 and 25-7 to earn the victory. 

Breanna Kempf had one ace and one kill, Jenna Petrowicz tallied four aces, two kills and four digs while Lilyann Baldwin had two aces, one kill, one dig and one block for Tech. 

Turners 3, Greenfield 0 — Madi Liimatainen put down nine kills and nine aces while making four digs in the Thunder’s’ 25-10, 25-6, 25-12 win over the Green Wave in Turners Thursday. 

Tatiana Carr Williams put down four kills and three aces to go along with one dig while Marilyn Abura had two kills, one ace and one dig in the win. 

Mohawk Trail 3, Mahar 1 — Palmer King put down 20 kills to go along with 11 assists and 11 digs as the Warriors earned a victory in Buckland Thursday. 

Emma Canaday had four kills and four digs, Zoe Mojallali smashed four kills while Adrian Grant tallied three kills and 10 digs in the win. 

Boys soccer

Pioneer 1, Smith Academy 0 — Kurt Redeker blasted in a shot from 30 yards out in the 67th minute to lift the Panthers to a victory over the Falcons on Thursday in Hatfield.

Gavin Gammell came up with 18 saves in the shutout. 

Field hockey

Longmeadow 4, Greenfield 1 — McKenzie Boswell scored the lone Green Wave goal in a loss to the Lancers at Donna Woodcock Field Thursday. 

Kayden Viencek made nine saves in the loss. 

Golf

Westfield Tech 181, Mohawk Trail 189 — Phineas Tuttman led the way with a 44 in the Warriors’ loss at Country Club of Greenfield Thursday. 

Logan Moore and Conner Bergeron each shot a 48 while Douglas Wilcox carded a 49 for Mohawk Trail. 

Wednesday results

Volleyball

Frontier 3, Central 0 — Six kills and five digs from Olivia Machon along with nine aces and three digs from Ariana Miller helped the Redhawks pull away with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-20 win over the Golden Eagles at Goodnow Gymnasium Wednesday. 

Hannah Davis made 14 digs and dished two assists while Bailey Martin added four kills in the victory. 

Girls soccer

Frontier 3, Ware 0 — Carly Robertson scored and dished two assists in the Redhawks’ road victory over Ware on Wednesday. 

Skyler Steele and Maddie Fagan also scored in the win while Aylen Shaw made six saves in the shutout.
