Call it a clean sweep for Greenfield High School on Tuesday.

Both Green Wave cross country teams went 3-0 in season-opening action at the Hadley Reservoir, taking care of business in a quad meet against Hopkins, Mahar and Hampden Charter.

The girls team had four of the top five finishers, with Eva Heath winning the race in 21 minutes, 2 seconds on the 2.7-mile course in Hadley. Kandice Lu was the runner-up in 21:32, while Shane Subeldia took fourth in 22:12 and Johanna Guiod was fifth in 22:40.

In the boys race, Hopkins’ John Hanscom was the overall winner in 15:45 but five straight Greenfield runners followed suit. Sophomore Erick Badillo was the runner-up with a time of 17:09, with a pack of Andy Bostrom (third, 17:25), Alex Tirrell (fourth, 17:31), Gianni Passiglia (fifth, 17:31) and Matt Conway (sixth, 17:54) next across.

Mahar’s Liam Didonato wound up eighth overall (18:30) to pace the Senators.

• In other season-opening cross country action, the Frontier girls won both of their races in a tri-meet, and the boys went 1-1 in what was a positive first performance of the year.

The Red Hawk girls defeated Hampshire and Westfield Tech, while the boys defeated Westfield Tech and fell to Hampshire in Westhampton.

It was the young Frontier girl runners who dominated the race, with freshman Angelina Egland finishing as the overall winner with a time of 21:32 on the 2.9-mile course. She was followed in second by fellow freshman Abigail Howard with a time of 21:34.

Eighth-grader Leah Gump took fourth (22:36), seventh-grader Sasah Malo took sixth (23:27) and sophomore Sadie Ross took seventh (23:33).

On the boys side, Gehrig Brynda was the second runner to finish with a time of 17:19. Patrick Boyden was the other Red Hawk to place, taking sixth with a time of 18:30.

• In a quad meet at Granby, the Mohawk girls defeated Easthampton and Granby but fell to Pope Francis, while the boys earned a win against Easthampton but lost to both Granby and Pope Francis.

Erika Looman took third on the girls side, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes, 26 seconds. Erica Szewczyk followed in fourth (23:05), Savannah Simmons finished seventh (24:57) and Carli Cusimano took 10th (25:57).

In the boys race, Dennis Simmons took third with a time of 18:27, and Sean O’Day was the only other Mohawk runner to place, taking 10th (22:25).

Moore breaks 40 as Hawks stay perfect

Gunnar Moore fired his team’s low score of the day, as his 39 out of the No. 3 spot was good enough for four points in Frontier’s 17½ -6½ victory over Southwick in an independent golf match at Edgewood Golf Course in Southwick.

“Gunnar played really well,” Frontier coach Bill Fitzpatrick said. “He started out a bit slow but finished his round strong.”

Mikey Corduff shot 40 at No. 1 for the Hawks (3-0), and Kyle Maynard took 3½ points at No. 2 thanks to a 42. Porter Clancy and Rowan Blair each shot 43 in the win.

Sulda goes low for Eagles

Alex Sulda shot 44 out of the No. 4 spot, sweeping all four points to help Franklin Tech edge Westfield Tech, 13-11, in Bi-County West action at East Mountain Country Club.

Ryan Artus captured three points thanks to a round of 52 in the No. 5 spot for the Eagles, while Mike McGoldrick shot 46 at No. 1.

Warriors edge Sabis

Ben Thompson was the match medalist with a low round of 48 out of the No. 1 spot, and host Mohawk Trail got into the win column for the first time on the young season thanks to a 12½-11½ victory over Sabis in a Bi-County West match Tuesday at Edge Hill Golf Course.

Logan Moore (60) and Austin Parker (64) came through in the Nos. 5 and 6 spots for Mohawk Trail, as the duo combined for seven out of a possible eight points to lift the hosts to victory.

• Elsewhere, the Turners Falls golf team beat St. Mary’s, 14-10, at Thomas Memorial Golf Club on Tuesday.

Joey Mosca shot a 41 to claim the No. 1 spot over Manny Umana, 3-1.

Brian Poirier (49), Aidan Bailey (48) and Jeremy Kovalsick (55) claimed victories in the next three slots for the Thunder.

• In other action, Ryan Cote shot a 39 for the Greenfield High School golf team in a 14½-9½ win over Easthampton on Tuesday.

The 39 was good for a 2-2 tie with Tyler Colby at No. 1 for the Green Wave (2-0) at Country Club of Greenfield.

Dylan Archer shot a 49 at No. 4 to take the win (4-0). Jake Cote shot a 50 to shut out Drew Thompson at No. 5.
