It is with great sadness that the family of George P. Lachowetz announces his passing on Saturday May 26, 2018 at the age of 63 years. George will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents George and Florence (Morrow) Lachowetz and brother William F. Sanderson III. He leaves behind his sisters, Margaret Calcan of Athol and Kathy Provost of Macon, GA. and beloved nieces and nephews Andy Sujdak, Heather Sujdak. Bill Sanderson, Susan Pratt, Ashleigh (Provost) Smaha.

George was born and raised in Athol, went to school in Athol, and attended Holyoke Community College. He was a free spirit; his adventures included travels to California, Florida, and most recently Louisiana where he was residing at the time of his death. Although he was in the south his love of the Red Sox and the Patriots continued. He was happiest when able to view one of those games. His work at the Salvation Army House in Baton Rouge brought him new friendships. Most recently he was a taxi driver and was amazed that one of his fares had a connection to Athol! He loved fishing at the Quabbin, and spent many hours marveling at the beauty of the Quabbin. In younger years he worked out regularly at the Y, he enjoyed billiards and especially loved the rock and roll of the 70’s. He loved to tell the tale of his week-end at Woodstock in 1969. His knowledge of WWII was expansive and he loved to watch movies relating to that era.

He will be greatly missed by friends, family and loved ones. A Memorial Service for George will be held on Saturday, June 9th , at 99 Hapgood Street, (Eagles 4545) in Athol from 2-5pm, for family and friends to gather and celebrate his life.
