The Greenfield Minor League Baseball board of directors elected to postpone the beginning of the spring season, which had an original start date of April 26.

An email from the board stated, “We will be basing all of our decisions on the recommendations and restrictions placed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).”

The earliest that the season could start would be the middle of May. If that is not feasible the league could begin as late as July 5.

“We are going to be following all regulations,” League president Matt Zraunig said. “The players and families can be confident that the board will do everything we can to provide a league in a safe manner.”

All GMLB families are encouraged to register at GMLB.org.

“We just really need names and the number of players we have to work with as soon as possible,” the email stated. “For those of you that have already paid and the contingency plans do not work for your family, or you are just not comfortable in groups regardless of the recommendations of the CDC or MDPH, we will set up a time to honor refunds at a later date.”

GGSL registration

The Greenfield Girls Softball League will not be holding in-person registration on Saturday.

Interested players can sign up online at www.greenfieldsoftball.weebly.com

An email from the league stated, “Once we determine if there will be a season, as events continue to unfold, we will work on collecting registration fees.”
