Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church to celebrate Fat Tuesday

ATHOL — Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church will celebrate Fat Tuesday on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. Also known as Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Carnivale and Pancake Day, Fat Tuesday is typically a massive celebration that takes place one day before the start of the Christian season of Lent.

This year, the church at 40 Island St. is hosting a party. It will open its doors to friends, family, neighbors — the entire community. Fellowship Hall, located in the church basement, will be decorated in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, gold and green. And, there will be beads.

Guest will enjoy live music, games and food. There will be pizza and make-your-own sundaes. The event is free, family friendly and open to the community.

Pastor Mary Owen will lead an evening of fellowship. The event is drug- and alcohol-free.
