ATHOL, MA — Elizabeth (Quader) MacDonald, 98, wife of the late Howard MacDonald, passed into the Lords hands on January 5, 2019 under the loving care of her Quabbin “family” and her four daughters; Carol (wife of the late Michael Littizzio), Elaine (wife of Ronald Fournier), Diane (wife of Chris Anderson), and Marilyn Ryder.

Born on November 22, 1920 to Pauline (Shemoney) and John Quader, she grew up in Athol with her brothers; Anthony, Alphonse, and Paul, all of whom have predeceased her. “Betty” met the love of her life “Mickey,” whom she married in 1941 and together they raised their four girls in the home Mickey built on Fredette Street. Sadly, Mickey passed away in 1987 but Betty continued to live in that house for over sixty years.

Besides her four daughters, Betty leaves behind eight grandchildren; Tracy, Curtis, April, Kirsten, Sara, Adam, Carrie, and Lindsay, and 18 great-grandchildren. Besides her dear friend, Jean Ryder, Betty also leaves her sisters-in-law; Cynthia Trinque (and her husband Ronald) and Marguerite Donnelly; nieces and nephews; Paul Quader Jr., Donald Gormley, Charles “Rocky” Stone, Bonnie Stewart, and nine Donnellys; Thomas, Kathleen, Trisha, Danny, Maryanne, Michael, Jimmy, John and Patrick. She also leaves behind former sons-in-law George Sawicki and Fred Ryder.

A Calling Hour will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 from 10-11 am in the

Higgins O’Connor Chapel, 146 Main St. Athol with a Funeral Service immediately following. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Quabbin Valley Healthcare for their loving care of Betty over the last five years of her life. Although it was not “home” on Fredette Street, it was you who cooked and cleaned for her and tucked her into bed at night for which we are most grateful.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dana Unit at Quabbin Valley Healthcare 821 Daniel Shays Hwy. Athol, Ma 01331.
