The U.S. Mint has issued its last coin for 2018, the first Innovation dollar coin. This will begin a series that will see four coins issued per year from 2019 to 2032.

George Washington's signature will be featured on the obverse of the coin, as the signer of the first patent issued by the federal government. The coin's reverse features a view of the upper part of the statue of liberty. In the style of the Sacagawea and later Presidential dollars, the coin's date will be on the edge.

These coins will be sold in rolls of 25 circulation strikes, or singly as proof-strikes. To order coins from the U.S. Mint, visit their website at www.usmint,gov, or call toll free 1 -800-USA-MINT.  There is a shipping charge added to the cost of each order.

Our last column of advice on holiday gift giving for collectors will discuss gifting collectible items.

A beginning collector is much easier to give a collectible gift to than an experienced one. Beginners can be asked if they need a price guide, periodical subscription, album. or even a starter kit for their hobby.

An experienced collector is more difficult to gift for, as their needs are more difficult to determine. While they might to get an up to date price guide, or a periodical subscription, they must be asked of they would like a specific item they need for their collection. The easiest way to do this is to get a list of several items they are looking for, along with their usual sources for obtaining such items.

Do not go out and buy a coin, stamp, or sports card from an advertisement or cable TV shopping channel; you may pay too much for something your collector may not want or need.

A coin show will be held on December 23 at the Springhill Suites Hotel at Devens (two miles north of Exit 37 off Route 2) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Off street parking is free, but there is an admission charge.
