A new look, a new era

It may be a little early for spring cleaning, but here at the Daily News, we are taking this opportunity to give ourselves a fresh look.

We asked our page designers and web developers to help us rearrange the newspaper and its website, and today is your first look at it. It is our goal to bring you more news, more color, more targeted advertising opportunities for local businesses, and more access to news as we make these changes.

It has been a little over a month since we started bringing you the news of the North Quabbin region, but it seems like a lifetime. During that time, we have been updating the many systems we use to bring you the news every day, creating a new website and redesigning the print version of the Daily News.

By plugging into a new news system, we have given our reporters more time to gather news and write more local stories. You should see a difference, including a new features page on B3. The topic will change each day. On Monday, it will be all about food. Tuesday, it will be about senior living, and on Wednesday, you’ll read about living a healthy life. On Thursday, we’ll bring you the arts of the region, and on Friday, you’ll read about the great outdoors of the Quabbin region. Finally, on Saturday, we bring you Celebrations, a page featuring the wonderful people of the Quabbin region and their accomplishments.

In addition to the new design of the paper and the website, we will introduce an app for the Athol Daily News, giving you more access to the news, no matter where you are or when you want to read it. This new app will provide you with access to the e-edition (a digital replica of the printed newspaper) and a mobile version of our website. It’s called a 2-in-1 app. Readers can carry both products on their smartphones or tablets and switch back and forth between them.

This is an exciting time for our readers, our advertisers and our staff, as we continue to build up our strong community newspaper, the Athol Daily News. It has been wonderful to see the recent economic development announcements in the paper, and we are pleased to help grow the newspaper in conjunction with these important additions to our community.
