Bingo for baseball event upcoming

Greenfield Minor League Baseball will host a Bingo night at the Greenfield Elks on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Doors will open at 6p.m., with bingo to begin at 7. There will be raffle items and items up for live auction.

Youth basketball

GMS beats Pioneer

Maggie Provencal dropped 17 points to lead the Greenfield Middle School girls basketball team past Pioneer, 30-5, on Monday.

Anna Bucala had three points in the win while Laura Stebbins, Caitlyn Davenport, Mackensie Goncalves, Abby Carlo and Sophia Rotkowicz all had two points. 

Stella Verlander played well on the defensive end.

■ In other middle school basketball action, Angel Castillo had 15 points and Logan Cormier added 12 to lead the Athol-Royalston boys middle school team over Smith Academy, 50-24, on Tuesday. 

Colby Goodwin had six points in the win while Ethan Bacigalupo and Connor Cox each had four points. Ethan Heuer put in three points and Bradley Warner, Eli Wein and Landon Mallette each had two points for Athol. 

■ It was a monster defensive performance for the Greenfield middle school girls team against Mohawk on Tuesday, not giving up a single point as the Wave earned a 24-0 win. 

Maggie Provencal led the way with nine points and Anna Bucala had six points. Amelia Keeler and Zoe Noughton-O’Connor each chipped in two points. 

Mackensie Goncalves and Abby Carlo played great defense to help force the shutout. 

Junior varsity

The Athol boys basketball team lost to Renaissance, 49-36, in Springfield on Monday.

Connor Mahony led the Red Raiders with 11 points.

Dilan Fountain chipped in with eight points.

KOC Hoop Shoot

The Greenfield Knights of Columbus Council 133 will hold its Hoop Shoot on Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Greenfield YMCA.

The competition is open to all girls and boys in Franklin County between the ages of 9 and 14 as of Jan. 1. Age group winners will advance to the District Championships in February also at the Greenfield YMCA.

Registration begins at 3 and the competition takes place immediately after.

Lobsang Rabten scored 10 points to lead the Timberwolves over Erving, 41-33, in a Greenfield Co-Rec grades 3 and 4 boys basketball game on Saturday.

Bodie Burke also had 10 points in the win while Landen Benz had eight points. Nick Prasol had a great defensive day with three blocks.

Carter Leate’s 12 points led Erving.


The Greenfield 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team knocked off Tantasqua, 43-39, on Saturday at Greenfield High School.

Jonathan Breor led the way with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jacob Blanchard, Caleb Murray and Hugh Cyhowski each chipped in with eight points. 

The Wave plays against on Saturday against South Hadley back at Greenfield High School. 


Petrin Alumni Game

The 28th Annual David M. Petrin Alumni Game will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4:30 p.m. at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield. The game will feature Greenfield High School and Green Wave Alumni. Raffle prizes include items from the NHL and AHL. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for students.

All proceeds benefit the David M. Petrin Memorial Scholarship, awarded each spring to Greenfield High School graduates.

All GHS and Green Wave hockey alumni are welcome to play. Rosters are limited to 30 skaters and two goalies. Interested alumni should call Larry Petrin at 413-773-9250 and leave their name, telephone number and year of graduation.

Matt Lavoine and Trevor Kuchieski tallied goals, helping the FCHA Liberty Tax Service Bantam Green team tie Pioneer Valley, 2-2, in a GSL 14U North Division game at Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke on Sunday.

Dylan Archer and Eathon Bryant recorded assists, while Will Cowie made 17 saves in net. Archer, Will Miskovich, Jaxon Lavallee, Jayson Smith, Brodie Gagne, Hunter Smith and Evan Galli played well defensively for FCHA.


Sleigh Bell Run

The annual Greenfield Winter Carnival Sleigh Bell Run 4-Mile Road Race will take place on Feb. 1 at 10 a.m.

Start and finish on Hope Street in front of Hope & Olive Restaurant.
