Athol Police Log: Nov. 24-28, 2021

Friday, Nov. 24

During the early morning hours, over 40 Winter Ban parking violation citations were issued in the areas of Cottage, School, Crescent, Sanders and South streets.

6:06 a.m. – Traffic stop at Main and Canal streets resulted in the operator receiving a summons for driving with a suspended license.

7:16 a.m. – Lobby walk-in reported a male party was at that time in the Cumberland Farms parking lot, possibly intoxicated, walking around holding his head and stumbling into things. Cumberland Farms Manager shortly then reported the individual was in their bathroom and requested a welfare check. Police found no issues and sent the individual on their way.

7:19 a.m. – Police assisted with the disposal of a needle discovered on the ground by the bus stop in front of the YMCA, approximately one foot from the no parking sign.

9:00 a.m. – Lobby walk-in to report a possible fraud incident against their business.

11:50 a.m. – Police assisted with traffic control at Main and Exchange streets, at the request of the funeral home, for a funeral procession.

1:35 p.m. – Anonymous caller from Flat Rock Road area was concerned about hearing gunfire in the area. Police investigated and spoke with residents. It was determined that it was far enough away from properties and good back drop. Officer advised them of complaint.

2:49 p.m. – Chestnut Street caller reported smoke coming from their neighbor’s chimney area, believed to be “oil smoke.” After AFD investigated, the furnace was “red tagged.”

3:24 p.m. – Silver Lake Street caller reported a CO2 alarm that wouldn’t stop beeping even after changing the batteries. It was determined by AFD that no CO2 was detected and the alarm needed to be replaced.

7:41 p.m. – West Royalston Road caller reported her husband (whom she is separated from) was banging on her door trying to get in, and that the male party is known to have a firearm on his person. Police sent the male on their way and learned the argument was verbal only over custody issues.

Thursday, Nov. 25

4:12 p.m. – Written citation issued for stop sign violation in Chestnut Hill Avenue area.

6:22 p.m. – Officer initiated radar traffic enforcement at Main Street and Petersham Road at new light.

Friday, Nov. 26

10:28 a.m. – Two-car motor vehicle accident in Main Street area.

2:01 p.m. – Patrol officer investigated possible suspicious activity in the Harvard Avenue area of an individual that was walking down driveways. Stated they were waiting for a ride.

2:40 p.m. – Caller from Old Keene Road area requested assistance with a 16-year-old who was out of control, breaking windows and smashing things in the house.

Saturday, Nov. 27

8:27 a.m. – Lenox Circle caller added additional information to a previously reported motor vehicle break in, that a second vehicle had been broken into also.

10:58 a.m. – Crescent Street caller stated she takes care of a female party by getting her groceries every week. Stated she is currently at her apartment and the mail is piling up. She unlocked the door but the chain is still locked with a chain. Police checked with AMH, but not found to be there. Units were sent with AFD to assist with entry. Female party was located on the floor, breathing and trying to speak. Transported to the hospital.

12:39 p.m. – Police investigated multiple calls of hearing gunfire in the Walnut Street area and concerned it was too close to houses. Area search resulted in negative contact.

Sunday, Nov. 28

5:08 p.m. – APD assisted State Police with a three-car motor vehicle accident on Route 2 near mile marker 73.4.

5:46 to 6:26 p.m. – APD and AFD assisted State Police at three more motor vehicle accident scenes, all on Route 2 within 1 mile radius of each other.
