Athol Police Log: Aug. 9-11, 2021

Monday, Aug. 9

12:24 p.m. – Manager of business on South Main Street requested officer presence in the area around closing time to ensure employee safety while exiting the building and going to the parking lot.

1:57 p.m. – Lenox Street caller reported a stolen vehicle last seen Aug. 1 at Kim’s Corner Store. Officer contacted Dale’s Towing but they have had no contact with the vehicle. Spoke to reporting party on the phone. Vehicle was not stolen, but was towed by West Street Garage in Gardner.

3:05 p.m. – Highland Street caller advised that there is an MC/dirt bike riding up and down the road. Party stated that the operator is not wearing a helmet, and provided a description of operator. Gone on arrival.

5:22 p.m. – Lobby walk-in dropped off a cell phone that was found up at Market Basket by the kids rides.

5:47 p.m. – Newton Street caller reported 15-year-old juvenile was shooting an airsoft gun at them. Officer spoke with involved parties and the BB gun and airsoft gun were seized by police.

9:02 p.m. – Lobby walk-in to report theft of a laptop computer. Under investigation.

Tuesday, Aug. 10

8:07 a.m. – Main Street caller requested to speak to an officer about an assault that occurred in town about 15 minutes earlier. Advised of court options.

9:57 a.m. – Community policing met with YMCA preschool.

10:28 a.m. – Catholic Charities requested a welfare check on Gibson Drive where party was not answering the phone or the door. Person waiting at the scene. Gained entry, but no one was there.

11:52 a.m. – 911 call from Grove Street area where a child had passed out and hit their face on the floor, was bleeding profusely. Assisted AFD and transported to the hospital.

12:42 p.m. – Main Street caller requested assistance with a male party outside that was harassing customers. Manager has trespass paperwork in hand and wanted them served.

1:10 p.m. – Lobby walk-in with public records request. Form submitted and awaiting approval.

1:23 p.m. – Marble Street 911 call about an altercation that was going on behind the apartment building. It did not appear to be physical at that time. A male party, possibly intoxicated, left in a black truck. Gone on arrival.

1:46 p.m. – Dorset Road caller reported finding drug paraphernalia while walking. Item recovered and properly disposed of.

2:22 p.m. – Call of possible Pandemic Assistance Fraud reported from the Everett Avenue area. Report filed and under investigation.

2:36 p.m. – Pequoig Avenue area caller reported a loose pig near Starrett’s Gate. Searched area and confirmed the animal was back with the owner.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

8:31 a.m. – Brookside Road caller reported an erratic driver on Main Street headed towards Orange. Green and black sedan and partial plate number provided.

9:09 a.m. – Batchelder Road caller requested assistance on handling teenage son, who had left the residence, and was concerned about possible substance abuse.

9:35 a.m. – Police notified the DPW of a complaint about an IVS tree truck that did a U turn at Silver Lake Street and Pinedale Road that had dumped a lot of wood chips at the intersection. DPW to address clean up.

10:16 a.m. – Caller from J Street area reported that several vehicles parked along side the road would prevent emergency vehicles from passing. No issues were found.

10:49 a.m. – Unity Avenue area caller reported a verbal argument between them and their neighbor resulting in the neighbor threatening to shoot them. Caller was advised of Harassment Prevention Order options through court.

10:53 a.m. – South Main Street caller reported that a female party, appearing to be in their 60s, showed up at CSO claiming to be in a band (and was wearing a hospital bracelet) but was not making statements about doing/causing harm. Caller wanted to make police aware in case someone might be looking for her.

11:15 a.m. – South Main Street caller reported that a person came into their building not making a lot of sense. Person stated to employees that God had sent them, then gave the reporting party a phone for subject’s cousin to call (who did not answer). Requested AFD assistance for transport.

11:42 a.m. – Officer assistance was requested in the Main Street area for an elderly couple with a disabled vehicle and struggling with the heat. Provided courtesy transport.

12:55 p.m. – Disturbance (continued yelling, possibly throwing things) reported at Marble Street. Argument verbal only.

2:44 p.m. – Main Street caller reported an accident of one vehicle that struck another parked vehicle. Car pulled off to the side of the road. Report filed.
