CHICOPEE — The Athol High School boys’ volleyball team has dealt with a lot of injuries of late, resulting in mix-and-match lineups and experimentation with moving parts.

In the middle of all that, the team came away with three quality league wins throughout the week, their latest on Friday night, defeating Chicopee High School, 3-1.

“Very happy to have three close wins,” offered Athol coach Sean MacDonald.

The Red Raiders are now 5-1 on the year and 4-1 in league play. The Pacers are now 1-4 on the year and 1-4 in league play.

Against the Pacers, Athol took Game 1, 25-23. The Red Raiders dropped Game 2, 25-21, then turned around and won Game 3, 25-17, and Game 4, 25-22.

Hayden Herk led the team with nine kills, while Justin Blake, who returned full-time in Games 3 and 4, had seven kills. Jordan Carrasquillo added six kills and Hudson Carlson and Anthony Potenti five each.

Blake also added three aces, while Herk and Colby Soltysik each added two. Soltysik also had 35 assists, bringing his season total to 150. He has 568 throughout his career.

The Red Raiders now enter one of the toughest portion of their schedule, facing Agawam High School, which is ranked second in all of western Massachusetts, on Tuesday. Athol then travels to Westfield High School, which is ranked first in all of western Massachusetts, on Thursday, then faces 10th-ranked Holyoke to kick off next week April 23.
