The Assumption College women’s track and field team placed second at the Northeast 10 outdoor championships for the first time in program history at Southern New Hampshire University on May 4.

Athol graduate Emily Casella helped the Greyhounds in their historic team effort at Penmen Stadium in Manchester, N.H.

Not only did Casella obliterate her previous program record in the discus, but she took home an individual Northeast 10 title in the process.

Casella’s throw of 42.28 meters broke her previous record by almost two meters.

The junior thrower added two second places finishes for Assumption in the javelin (39.69) and the shot put (13.58).

Casella also competed in the hammer throw, placing fifth (44.09) overall.

Assumption just missed first place, 15 points behind winner Stonehill College. The Greyhounds had three other individual Northeast titles.

The men’s team placed fifth overall.

Athol graduate Kris Selanis placed 22nd (11.48) in the shot put for the Greyhounds.
