Students at Athol Royalston Middle School are raising money for two good causes, writes eighth-grader Karleigh Chase in a press release. “First, to help our friends and neighbors with food insecurities. According to Feeding America, one in five children struggle with hunger in the USA right now. This situation is getting worse and worse as the Coronavirus surges.

“Second, we will donate to help those suffering in Honduras because of the recent category 5 hurricanes. There are students in our school with family members in Central America. Many homes and businesses have been completely destroyed. ARMS students will be doing a walk-a-thon Dec. 11 to raise donations to decrease the effects of both hunger and hurricanes. The walk-a-thon will follow Covid-19 precautions.

“If you are able, please support us. We are middle school students trying to make a positive difference in the world. The monetary donations you make for food will be sent to the two local food pantries: the Salvation Army and Our Lady Immaculate. For the Honduras hurricanes, the donations will be sent to Doctors without Borders.

How to donate

“Please help by pledging money to a walker at ARMS, or you could choose to make a direct donation in any amount. Please deliver or mail cash or check donations to ARMS, 1062 Pleasant Street, Athol, MA 01331. Donations can also be dropped off during the “holiday truck or treat event” being held at the school on Dec. 12.
