ATHOL — A section of Route 2 westbound at exit 77 will be closed overnight Thursday into Friday morning for concrete bridge deck repairs, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The closure is scheduled from Thursday at 7 p.m. to Friday at 5:30, according to the state agency.

“The temporary closure is needed to allow crews to safely and efficiently complete scheduled repairs of the concrete bridge deck on the bridge that carries Route 2 over Route 32,” MassDOT wrote in a statement. “During the closure, a detour will be in effect.”

Traffic will be detoured onto Route 2A (Templeton Road) westbound to Route 32 southbound (Petersham Road) back onto Route 2 near exit 75.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area, according to MassDOT.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
