Athol Police Log: June 22-23, 2021

Tuesday, June 22

7:00 a.m. – Caller from Harrison Street area reported seeing a baby deer without mother near by. Instructions from the ACO (Animal Control Officer) was to leave it alone and not to go near it.

7:39 to 8:05 a.m. – Traffic detail Pleasant Street and Batchelder Road.

10:33 a.m. – Welfare check requested in the Conant Road area where a Home Health Aide reported resident’s car is in the driveway, but no one is answering the door. Confirmed resident was being treated elsewhere.

10:49 a.m. – Request for traffic assistance at Main and Exchange Street for a funeral.

11:07 a.m. – 911 call from Tower Road establishment requesting an ambulance for a customer who appeared to be having a seizure in one of the isles. Transported to hospital.

11:29 a.m. – DCF (Department of Children and Families) in station to speak to an officer about an ongoing issue with an Exchange Street area resident.

11:34 a.m. – Patrol officer in the Pine Street area requested AFD assistance for a possible medical emergency. Subject declined assistance.

11:38 a.m. – Hampstead Place caller reported more damage had been done to their residence from rocks being thrown at it. Officer conducted follow up at 12:50 p.m. including pictures of damage.

1:12 p.m. – Lobby walk-in to report a missing juvenile. Reporting party stated they attempted to report it a few days earlier, but officer would not file the report at that time. Reporting party was advised by DCF to return and file a missing person’s report. Patrol officer was advised to check Daniel Shays Highway area, but had negative contact. Assistance requested by Fitchburg police to assist with residence check in their area and cell phone location “ping” was attempted.

1:59 p.m. – Patrol officer in the South Main Street area assisted with a disabled motor vehicle. Towed by Dale’s.

4:03 p.m. – Lobby walk-in for a public records request. Form submitted and awaiting approval.

4:04 p.m. – Lobby walk-in to request police assistance with a tenant refusing owner access to their room, after they were given 24 hours notice, so electrician/plumber could access. House is being put on the market and eviction process has been started. Officer mediated the situation at Old Keene Road and access was granted. The tenant was advised to call the court house that issued the eviction notice to answer their questions.

4:50 p.m. – Minor motor vehicle accident at Crescent and Main Streets. No injuries, minor damage.

5:43 p.m. – Main Street caller reported an individual that did not look well and seemed unsteady. Courtesy transport to residence and left in care of room mate.

5:47 p.m. – Orange FD assistance was requested for a Reservoir Drive one year and 4 months old infant with apparent respiratory distress.

5:49 p.m. – Caller reported someone in the Jordan Drive and Columbian Avenue area was shooting at Canadian Geese with a BB gun. Officer spoke with reporting party and advised the Animal Control Officer.

6:48 p.m. – Exchange Street caller reported that, the previous week, their dentist had been verbally abusive and thrown something at them. Officer spoke with reporting party about workplace harassment and advised them of the agency that deals with such incidents.

7:07 p.m. – It was reported that a silver car was following a red Explorer that was driving erratically and was getting off at Exit 18 Athol. Patrol officer intercepted and gave courtesy transport to the station. Car was towed by Dale’s.

7:58 p.m. – Employee from a Tunnel Street business reported that a female, that had been trespassed from the premises, was across the street for a couple of hours and was harassing customers. Officer sent subject on their way.

9:00 to 9:39 p.m New Athol Road business security check. Community policing Silver Lake Beach area. One vehicle discovered with subjects fishing. They were sent on their way. No other issues found.

10:07 p.m. – Traffic stop at Templeton Road and Colonial Drive for failure to use headlights.

Wednesday, June 23

8:22 a.m. – Lobby walk-in for public records request. Form submitted and awaiting approval.

8:39 a.m. – Traffic enforcement Spring Street.

9:47 a.m. – Hapgood Street caller reported the excessive speed, loudness of the trucks and motorcycles traveling down the hill.

12:20 p.m. – Caller from Pleasant Street area reported a female individual stumbling up the road and fell in one of the yards. She appeared to be laying on the ground of the wood line, awake but not responding to anyone, then took off into the woods. 12:44 pm officer on scene requested hospital transport.

12:50 p.m. – 911 open line call. Yelling and screaming could be heard in the background before they hung up. During call back Sanders Street party said their son was breaking things, but not getting physical with them. When police arrived subject had already left with their mother. Family was transported to a treatment facility.

1:53 p.m. – Freedom Street establishment reported a possible shoplifting incident. Under investigation.

2:14 p.m. – Lobby walk-in to report there were more broken windows in both former schools since the previous day. Advised to call when they see people at the school(s).

2:47 p.m. – Main Street caller reported their truck key had just been stolen out of the truck’s ignition. Under investigation.

11:23 p.m. – Brookside Road area Business/Building security checks.
