Athol Police Log: Jan. 28-30, 2021

Thursday, Jan. 28

2:05 a.m. — 911 caller asking for a ride to Athol Hospital to speak with CSO, Chestnut Hill Avenue. Male party went voluntarily without incident.

5:17 a.m. — Athol Hospital requesting a courtesy transport for male party, Main Street. Male party was transported back to his residence without incident.

8:13 a.m. — Caller reporting spray painting on the side of the garage, Crescent Street. Spray paint graffiti damage observed by officer. Incident under investigation.

8:53 a.m. — Caller reporting a vehicle blocking his driveway, Harvard Avenue. Reporting party was able to get out of driveway using a different driveway. Left note on the vehicle in the way advising not to park there anymore. Driveway had not been cleared off so it looked like a pull off. No answer at neighbor’s door.

9:47 a.m. — AFD assisting Athol Police, Crescent Street.

9:50 a.m. — Burglar alarm activation, Tunnel Street. Rear door found not secure. Officers searched the property and found nothing out of place.

10:23 a.m. — Motor vehicle accident, Exchange Street. First vehicle struck parked vehicle while turning to use ATM. Damage was to first vehicle.

11:32 a.m. — Maintenance workers are reporting a broken window and screen on one of the recent vacant buildings and believes a squatter may be inside, Carol Circle. Officers made entry with no one located inside and secured the property.

12:46 a.m. — Orange District Court Probation would like a welfare check done on an intoxicated individual who was supposed to be turning himself in and never showed up, Cooke Place. Male party was not at the residence. Believed to be with family in Gardner.

1:29 p.m. — DPW reporting someone drove a snowmobile through the cemetery causing damage, Mount Pleasant Street. Incident under investigation.

5:00 p.m. — Caller reporting her mother is being verbally aggressive towards her, Hapgood Street. Mother and daughter arguing, nothing physical.

5:51 p.m. — Caller reporting a male party hanging out in Soap & Suds, not doing laundry, just asking people for money, Main Street. Spoke with male party who was advised of issue.

7:04 p.m. — 911 call requesting an ambulance for a 58-year-old female, unresponsive, she is breathing, Cottage Street. Transported to hospital.

Friday, Jan. 29

2:23 a.m. — 911 call for a 32-year-old female with a possible heart attack, Sanders Street. Assisted AFD. Transported to hospital.

6:24 a.m. — Engine 4 responding for an alarm sounding, Ridge Road. No smoke or fire. Faulty detector.

7:00 a.m. — Caller reporting male party that lives in the same building was hooked up to his heat and when he unplugged it the male party punched him in the face and pushed him down, Unity Avenue. Other party involved called and sated that a male party was in the basement throwing all of his property around. Reporting party stated he pushed the male party away from his property. Officers spoke to both involved parties and determined a simple pushing match occurred. Neither party wanted to press charges and both were given information for future charges if they changed their minds.

10:46 a.m. — Caller reporting a male party is upset about his laundry that was left in the basket overnight and now is gone, Main Street. Spoke to involved party and a caretaker of the business. The owner has been contacted and will review the camera footage.

12:03 p.m. — Caller reporting an erratic operator, Crescent and Orange streets. Reporting party stated that vehicle is a gray Ford Focus and witnessed the vehicle go through a red light.

1:29 p.m. — Alarm company calling in a general fire alarm activation, South Royalston Road. Per Engine 4, on scene and nothing showing.

2:53 p.m. — Athol Hospital requesting a welfare check on a male party who she hasn’t heard back from in 10 days, Lindsay Lane. Hospital called back and made contact with that male party.

4:21 p.m. — Caller reporting male party going up to people in vehicles asking for money, Main Street. Party was gone on arrival.

4:27 p.m. — Caller requesting assistance with property damage, Ridge Road. Officer viewed broken window on side door. Landlord wanted officer to stand by while he covered the window with plywood. Window covered without entering residence.

4:59 p.m. — Female party in lobby requesting a call for service regarding her child’s father not on time for custody exchange, Exchange Street. Advised party to seek guidance from family probate court.

Saturday, Jan. 30

1:38 a.m. — Officer out with occupied vehicle, Exchange Street. Contact was made with subject who stated he was having trouble sleeping so he stepped out for a ride. All appeared in order.

2:53 a.m. — Caller reporting ongoing issue with being woken up from loud party from same two individuals, Main Street. Officers made contact with subject. There was no party. Officers did observe the TV was extremely loud. Subject was asked if he could turn it down a little.

4:49 a.m. — Life Alert for an 82-year-old female with an unknown medical, Maple Street. Subject accidentally set off the alarm while getting out of bed. No emergency, all was secure.

9:51 a.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Fern Street. Officer requesting tow, Dale’s on scene. Jeremy Paul Richard, 32, of Ludlow was arrested on charges of operating motor vehicle with license suspended, damage to windshield greater than one inch in critical viewing area, possess Class A drug, subsequent offense, possess Class B drug and two charges of possess Class E drug.

10:10 a.m. — 911 call from staff from Quabbin Valley Healthcare for a hot water leak, Daniel Shays Highway.

10:50 a.m. — Male party is looking for assistance getting belongings back, Crescent Street. Reporting party stated there is a 209A in place. Per officer, female party is refusing for male party to come and get belongings. Reporting party was advised.

11:48 a.m. — Alarm company is calling for a commercial burglar alarm, Pleasant Street.

12:20 p.m. — Party reporting a suspicious person, Freedom Street.

12:36 p.m. — Staff member is reporting spray paint on the back side of the building, Freedom Street.

1:08 p.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Lenox and Silver Lake streets. Ryan S. Gravel, 33, of Athol was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, subsequent offense.

1:26 p.m. — Phillipston PD is requesting a welfare check on a female party that resides in Athol, Exchange Street. Officer speaking with female party.

Sunday, Jan. 31

7:13 a.m. — Caller reporting a white female party walking with belly shirt on and open winter jacket, no hat or gloves, School Street. Reporting party is concerned for her welfare. Checked the area, unable to locate.

8:00 a.m. — Officer requesting water department be notified that there is water coming up from the ground and it is going into the street, Main Street. DPW notified.

8:23 a.m. — Caller reporting there is some type of alarm going off inside, Main Street. Spoke with key holder, it is the temperature alarm.

10:50 a.m. — 911 caller requesting an ambulance for his daughter in Florida, Exchange Street. Spoke with daughter, her friend is there and taking her to the hospital.

2:00 p.m. — Party in the lobby to complain about a vehicle that passed his on the hill on Cottage Street while there was oncoming traffic, Tunnel Street.

7:25 p.m. — 911 caller requesting an ambulance for a 40-year-old female who took an insulin overdose, Petersham Road. Assisted FD. Transported to hospital.

9:28 p.m. — Caller reporting a fight happening in the area, Liberty Street. Took another call for a disturbance. Parties were separated upon arrival and advised to call if any further issues come up.
