Athol Police Log: Feb. 21-22, 2021

Sunday, Feb. 21

12:58 a.m. – 911 call from a female party stating her ex-husband stole her packages from their residence, Shore Drive. She is positive all three packages were delivered today and he is stating he does not have them but would not let her see in his vehicle and then took off in his gold Ford Fusion, probably driving back to Quincy where he is staying. Officer spoke with the female. Subject advised ongoing issues with an upcoming divorce. Negative contact with the male party.

8:35 a.m. – Caller is reporting a white pickup truck with Florida plates on it has been parked in front of their house since 6:30 a.m., Partridgeville Road. Vehicle unoccupied and in the road, locked and not running. Vehicle towed by Dale’s for being a hazard.

10:46 a.m. – Orange PD calling to request an ambulance to location for a 68-year-old male party having a diabetic emergency, Twichell Street. Assisted AFD. Patient refusal.

12:39 p.m. – 911 caller requesting an ambulance for her 63-year-old mother that fell and has broken her ankle, Union Street and Ridge Avenue. Assisted AFD. Transported to hospital.

1:24 p.m. – Party in the station to speak to an officer in regards to an incident that occurred in Gardner at Friendly’s, Exchange Street. Advised to contact Orange District Court tomorrow to go over options.

5:57 p.m. – 911 caller reporting a FedEx driver hit his cement wall in front of his driveway and took off, Adah Street. Reporting party stated there is damage, unknown license plate.

8:04 p.m. – Leominster PD requesting an officer to go to location for a hit and run that occurred in that town, White Pond Road. LPD requesting to see if that vehicle has front end damage. Officer spoke with the parents of daughter who was driving the vehicle, took pictures and contacted LPD. They state she was in an accident and the other car started following her. She was scared, so she drove home. Advised to contact Leominster PD.

6:30 p.m. – 911 call, multiple reports of a motor vehicle into a pole with wires across the road, Daniel Shays Highway. National Grid notified and on scene. Assisted with traffic. Officer has one under. Jim’s has the vehicle. Dana J. Knechtel, 51, of Orange, was arrested on charges of negligent operation of motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and OUI-liquor OR .08%, third offense.

8:14 p.m. – Female looking to speak to an officer regarding her husband’s will, Exchange Street. Advised her that it was a court matter.

Monday, Feb. 22

8:47 a.m. – Male party calling to speak with an officer regarding his belongings and being “blackmailed,” Old Keene Road. Reporting party looking for a police escort to pick up his belongings this afternoon. Reporting party will call or come to station before he goes over there.

2:31 p.m. – GPD is requesting a welfare check on a patient that left Franklin Medical Center this morning against medical advice, Marble Street. Per GPD, APD can cancel, they have located the individual.

3:43 p.m. – Party in lobby to report that her vehicle was hit in the Market Basket parking lot, Tower Road. Female party said minimal damage.

3:51 p.m. – Party in the lobby for an escort to get property, Old Keene Road.

4:14 p.m. – Caller requesting a welfare check, Congress Street. Reporting party stating her father just got out of the hospital and he is not taking his medication and is yelling at the grandmother and the two young children. Spoke with grandmother who states everything is fine. No problems found.

5:22 p.m. – Caller reporting two parties, one male, one female, walking across the street to a vacant house that is being foreclosed, Lenox Street. Reporting party stated that those parties walked down that driveway in the area of the garage. Officer checking the house where the footprints are. Checked the area, parties were gone on arrival. No sign of a break.

5:41 p.m. – Caller reporting a two car motor vehicle accident that occurred around 5:20 p.m., Crescent Street. Reporting party stated both parties exchanged information and they would like to speak with an officer regarding it. Attempted to contact other party involved, but he did not pick up.

5:46 p.m. – Multiple calls regarding cars being stuck on the road, Pleasant Street. DPW notified.

6:06 p.m. – Caller reporting his vehicle went off the road and he is stuck on the sidewalk, Main Street. Reporting party stated there is no damage, just needs assistance. Officer stated that the male party was getting pushed out by DPW workers.

6:12 p.m. – Caller reporting minor motor vehicle accident, Main and Exchange streets. Car struck truck that was waiting for traffic signal. Per officer, both vehicles drivable.

6:19 p.m. – Anonymous caller reporting there is a male party walking in the road because the sidewalks are not plowed, South Main Street. Advised male party to not walk in the road due to weather conditions and heavy traffic.

6:23 p.m. – Caller reporting motor vehicle into a fence, Chestnut Hill Avenue and Main Street. Vehicle stuck in a snowbank. Fence pushed back, but does not appear damaged. Jim’s on scene.

6:27 p.m. – Caller reporting a male party riding his bike in the snow storm, Daniel Shays Highway. Reporting party stated that the male party fell off his bike and into traffic. Reporting party is concerned for his safety. Male party was advised to walk closer to the edge of the roadway with bicycle.

7:20 p.m. – Starrett employee reporting that there is a male party hanging out by the office door asking people for money, Crescent Street. Male party was gone on arrival.

9:30 p.m. – Caller reporting there is a car that slid off the road, Silver Lake Street. Motor vehicle drove off of the roadway and struck a street sign. Motor vehicle was gone on arrival. Reporting party stated the motor vehicle was a dark colored sport-like sedan with heavy front end damage. DPW is aware of the sign that was damaged.
