LEOMINSTER — The monthly meeting for the Leominster Art Association will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Congregational Church of Christ, 583 Main St., in Leominster.

This month’s demonstrator is member and past President Tom Bradley, who has always been involved in art.

Growing up in rural Massachusetts, he was always exploring the woodlands, meadows, fields and farmlands of the area, which became the primary basis of his work. Early in his career, he was an oil painter, but became attracted to the pastel medium in his 30s.

His passion grew for the medium when he attend a workshop with Albert Handel in 1984, where he introduced sanded paper in lieu of the limited pastel surfaces available at the time.

Primarily self-taught, Bradley is constantly reading and studying other artists’ work, techniques and methods to assist in his progression and development of work and technique. His enjoyment with the pastel medium is the intensity of the colors, the feel of holding a pastel stick in his fingers and the mark making to create what up close is abstract mark making that at a distance creates visual blending.

There is a $5 guest fee for non-members that may be applied toward membership. In case of inclement weather, cancellation information will be announced on radio station WPKZ 1280 AM.
