Orange Police Log: Oct 12-14

Saturday, Oct. 12

12:22 a.m. — Officers assisted other agency, Stone Road. All units cleared without incident.

12:26 a.m. — Officers assisted Department of Children and Families (DCF) workers at residence, Stone Road. Subject not located.

7:04 a.m. — Vandalism, Holtshire Road. Caller advises a Penske truck did damage to her lawn; truck left heading toward Erving. Officer confirmed damage; very minor. Caller wanted it documented.

7:37 a.m. — Vandalism, West Orange Road. Caller advises he struck a lamp post while trying to navigate the detour in Orange.

7:55 a.m. — Vandalism, Holtshire Road. Officer back to Holtshire Road address. Party responsible for this damage is requesting an officer, who returned to the scene and spoke with both parties. Officer advised that damages are so minor that a crash report will not be filed. Party was advised of an option to see charged through court if he wishes.

8:05 a.m. — East River Street caller requesting a call in regard to a property exchange to take place tomorrow with her husband as they are going through a divorce. He has told her she cannot come and was looking for some options. Officer spoke with husband and came up with a solution for both of them.

11:50 a.m. — Caller advises his Ford Focus was struck sometime overnight while parked at Red Brook Lane. Officer checked the passenger rear bumper and spoke with the caller, who indicated he will not need a police crash report as he won’t go through the insurance company.

12:21 p.m. — Caller reporting there is a female screaming and yelling walking around the parking lot and up and down the sidewalk, East Main Street. Yelling about trying to get to Athol It is reported her vehicle is currently in the parking lot. A 53-year-old was placed into protective custody, and Dick’s called to tow the vehicle.

12:57 p.m. — Report of a group of kids near the railroad tracks throwing rocks up toward the highway, Wendell Depot Road. Unable to locate. Spoke with Verizon worker who had not seen anybody.

1:20 p.m. — Report of black motorcycle, rider with back helmet and jacket, all over the road, unsafe passing, East Main Street.

1:35 p.m. — Orange Fire Department reports tractor trailer unit stuck at West River Street and Briggs Street. Upon arrival he had already successfully freed the TT.

1:31 p.m. — Traffic stop, Hamilton Avenue due to vehicle cutting off a cruiser. Operator not happy with the traffic backup. Warning issued. Advised all are frustrated.

3:45 p.m. — Caller advises about 30 minutes ago her son got into a fender bender. Info was exchanged however the other vehicle involved had a red rejection sticker on it, East Main Street. Caller was told that a red sticker meant that the car should not be allowed to be driven.

4:50 p.m. — Caller advising alarm sounding, Silver Lake Street. Call given to Athol Dispatch.

5:24 p.m. — Traffic stop, South Main Street, due to registered owner not having a valid license. Operator was issued a criminal citation for same.

5:37 p.m. — Medical emergency, Stone Road.

5:39 p.m. — Motor vehicle accident, South Main Street. Report of minor accident; officer requested. Caller states they have a picture of the other party’s info but they have since taken off. At 5:47 p.m. received a call from the other party involved from the station regarding the accident. She was advised that an officer was heading over to Trail Head and to head back over there. Operator of the Impala failed to see the other vehicle due to solar glare and struck the side of the other vehicle.

6:19 p.m. — Caller claims that subjects shoplifted from Walmart and are walking toward Butterfield Park. Caller claims that subjects are not allowed to be at the park. Area searched, negative contact.

8:30 p.m. — Shoplifting investigated, East Main Street. Female in custody for shoplifting; no I.D. in hand. A summons complaint has been requested for 37-year-old Orange resident for shoplifting by price tag tampering.

9:23 p.m. — Officers assisted DCF in checking the welfare of a child, Stone Road.

9:32 p.m. — Shots fired, West River Street. Caller advised someone is shooting at the gun club. Nothing heard coming from the gun club.

11:13 p.m. — Cell caller reporting erratic operation of a Nissan sedan, Athol Road.

Sunday, Oct. 13

9:15 a.m. — Caller requested officer while his ex-wife picks up some items, East River Street. Both cruisers were tied up at 9:30. Officer later spoke with individual who said they were all set and everything was going Okay.

12:23 p.m. — Vandalism, New Athol Road. Report of damage to the fire retention pond fence. Officers verified the camera footage and was advised by the owner that similar looking TT unit is parked at the Hannaford parking lot. Officers spoke with the operator who admitted driving into the scene but did not realize hitting the fence. All necessary information was exchanged.

12:33 p.m. — Traffic stop on New Athol Road for community caretaking. Operator educated on safety issues. Verbal warning issued.

2:27 p.m. — Shoplifting, East Main Street, officer requested. Male subject fled on a bicycle, wearing bluejeans and a gray winter hat. Officers spoke with party; there was not enough value in the merchandise taken to prosecute. They would like him trespassed from the store. Area checked and unable to locate.

4 p.m. — Motor vehicle accident, South Main Street. Athol dispatch inquiring if an Orange officer could respond to a head-on motor vehicle accident; APD units are tied up on a domestic call. Athol Fire Department on scene. Athol dispatch requested ambulance for two priority 3 patient.

5:48 p.m. — Caller looking for an officer to assist other agency at Stone Road location. Assisted DCF; negative contact.

5:48 p.m. — DCF seeking officer to assist with an investigation at Oaklawn Avenue address. Negative contact.

7:32 p.m. — Community policing, South Main and East Main streets.

8:13 p.m. — Congress Street; paperwork service for Athol Police Department. Negative status.

8:27 p.m. — Paperwork service (2nd attempt) for Athol Police, at East River Street. Negative contact; the male party has never lived at the above address.

9:36 p.m. — Serve warrant, Fairman Road. Negative contact.

Monday, Oct. 14

12:16 p.m. — Medical emergency, West River Street.

12:29 a.m. — Traffic stop for expired inspection sticker and registered owner showing suspended licensed. Licensed operator found to be driving. Verbal warning for inspection.

6:41 a.m. — Fireworks, Holtshire Road. officer spoke with local fishermen who said the noise was duck hunters in the cornfields.

7:21 a.m. — Officer observed party about to drive away, known to have revoked license and advised to not drive and have someone come drive him and motor vehicle away, East Main street.

7:52 a.m. — Traffic stop on Daniel Shays Highway for expired registration, Daniel Shays Highway. Operator/roadside renewal. Verbal warning issued.

8:32 a.m. — Vandalism, Red Brook Lane. Male to station reporting that last Tuesday he heard a “shotgun sound” and the back window on his motor vehicle broke. No signs of actual gunshot.

11:26 a.m. — Report of larceny, East River Street. Caller advising she had money stolen about an hour ago. She gave him money to buy something and he never returned. Asked what he was supposed to be buying her and she said “she didn’t know.” Officer responded to Pine Crest and attempted to get ahold of the caller. No one answered the door or stood in front of the apartment.

12:02 p.m. — Wallet found on roadway turned in at station.

12:12 p.m. — Red Brook Lane caller requests officer to report issue at the complex. Report taken.

2:26 p.m. — Shoplifting, East Main Street. Both units responded and found subject to have attempted to steal potpourri items. Items recovered and female sent on her way and told to use wiser judgment in the future.

5:02 p.m. — Traffic stop for speeding, East River Street. Verbal warning.

5:23 p.m. — Traffic stop for speeding, South Main Street. Citation issued.

8:04 p.m. — Motor vehicle complaint, Orange Road. Gray sedan going 18mph in a 45mph zone. Officer stopped vehicle on Route 78, operator did not know where he was, time of day, or what day it was. The vehicle was driven to the former Oriental House. Athol Fire Department responded due to altered mental status and transported subject to Athol Hospital Subject’s status was suspended for “medical reasons” out of New Hampshire. The vehicle was towed. Orange officer spoke with Hindsdale police police, faxed log entry info. They will be speaking with Elder Services.

11:31 p.m. — Traffic stop for marked lanes violation, East River Street. Verbal warning issued.
